To which George reportedly replied: ‘Forget that, darling, I’ve slept with Prince.’
A production source told the newspaper that the crew couldn’t believe what they had heard and the crowd went ‘absolutely wild.’
They added that the other judges, especially Will.i.am, thought it was brilliant and kept on high-fiving him.
The source said: ‘Production staff had to come up on stage and speak to them.
‘After that, Boy George started backtracking saying he hadn’t really slept with Prince and that in reality, he just had his poster on his wall.
The eccentric hit-maker was confirmed as the replacement coach for Tom Jones – who’d been on the show since its first series in 2012 – in August.
Speaking about his new role when the 2016 line-up was announced, Boy George said: ‘I’m thrilled and excited to be a coach on The Voice UK.
‘I’m a huge fan of the show and have watched and engaged with it from series one.’
But it wasn’t all plain-sailing as Tom, 72, hit out at BBC bosses at the time for the way in which he was ditched ‘without consultation’.
