Kanye West to Star in ‘Yeezus’ Movie

So let’s get this straight. If I act like a narcissistic artistic assh**le, I can possibly get a movie deal? It looks that way for Kanye West, and famed video director Hype Williams will be directing it.

The Huffingtonpost states that on Thursday, West released a new trailer for the “Yeezus” movie to his website, with word that the project should arrive in theaters soon. Hype Williams directs.

Judging from the footage — which starts with “Coldest Winter,” a song from “808s & Heartbreak” that West previously said he wrote about his mother’s death — “Yeezus” looks like a concert film, but there might be a narrative component as well. Here’s Bret Easton Ellis in an interview with Vice discussing a script he wrote for West:

It’s in Kanye-land and that’s subject to a whole other timeframe. He came and asked me to write the film. I didn’t want to at first. Then I listened to Yeezus. It was early summer last year and I was driving in my car. He’d given me an advance copy and I thought, regardless of whether I’m right for this project, I want to work with whoever made this. So f–k it, I said yes. And that’s how it happened. That was seven or eight months ago. We’ll see what happens.

The trailer is the same video that was used to introduce West on his recent appearance on “Late Night With Seth Meyers.”
