Is Loni Love Correct about Black Men Not Being Faithful Due to Lack of Power and Slavery?

Comedian Loni Love stated this past week on her talk show The Real, that black men in America cannot stay faithful in relationships due to their, in her words, being obsessed with money and power. The comment came up on the show regarding Joe Budden’s opinion regarding comedian Kevin Hart’s infidelity issues, and Loni interjected stating that “I don’t speak for the Black community by I do think that a lot of Black men, they really don’t know how to have true, faithful relationships,” she said. “They think because they have money, they have power, that they can treat women any kind of way

After another co-host mentioned that all men of other races cheat too, Loni then went on to say “No, it’s not across the board because what is happening is that we are still dealing with the point of slavery,” Loni continued. “And we are descendants of slavery and because our families were broken up, we still do not have an idea of how to have togetherness because our families were broken up.”

When I analyzed in context what Loni expounded, I realized that this was a backhanded response to a clear issue with men in general. To blame black men’s inability to maintain a healthy relationship with his mate due to these reasons is extraordinarily inaccurate. Singling out one race for cheating due to a lust for money and power makes the real culprits of infidelity avoid culpability. Loni apparently is looking through life and love through a pair of race baiting glasses. How can one seriously defend such a ridiculous claim? One would suspect that Loni has had bad experiences in the past with black men and is seeking to justify her claims because of it.

Yes, black men have suffered the unfathomable depths of slavery, and was separated from the family structure that they were expected to uphold without condition. Yes, black men have been on the short stick when it comes to economic power and has struggled to make ends meet for hundreds of years. But to lay the blame of infidelity at the feet of black men exclusively is not only irresponsible but dangerous. Men have always sought the objective of domineering and conquering. Collectively all men, from Mansa Musa to Alexander the Great and beyond, have sought riches and glory, but one his greatest prizes was the attention and affection of women. Many men have callously objectified and cheated on women for thousands of years. Some could easily say that to a certain degree, women equally share in this equation. Why do certain women attach themselves to men who have track records of unfaithfulness?

Many black males are taken off the chessboard due to not only economic hardships, but also to incarceration, death and living a ‘down-low’ lifestyle. When in comparison to other races, black men carry and exceptional weight to carry. But this should not reflect the totality of black males, only a small fraction of the population. The entertainment business through different genres of music through Hip Hop and Rock & Roll especially, have fostered the get rich and die trying lifestyle for men to look up too and emulate. Black men have been targeted and promoted to live life in excess, even without having the actual financial security as their counterparts. This drives certain men to seek the dominance of multiple women to compensate for the obvious lack of power within their own lives and communities. However, to communicate to the masses that only black males suffer from these deficits is highly deceptive. Black people only make up roughly 14% of the American population, so the numbers are skewed unportioned. What the real question should have been asked was why men cheat in general. I suspect that because Loni is in an interracial relationship, her rationale for her generalization is tainted.

Should Whitney Houston and The Notorious B.I.G. be Inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame?

I recently saw a comment online about why Whitney Houston and The Notorious B.I.G was not qualified to be inducted in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.  I wondered for a moment if I should be angered by this, and should I debate the origins of true Rock & Roll’s roots with the author of the post. I wanted to remind them of how the term Rock & Roll was created by a disc jockey by the name of Alan Freed, used to describe black R&B records that were of high energy. From the black roots of blues emanating from the local juke joints, to legendary stories of Robert Johnson selling his soul for a wicked lick on his well-worn guitar, rock’s origins could not be denied.

Rock & Roll is the love child of blues and the hard-rocking melodies of many different recordings of the early 1940’s and 50’s. The early rock and roll sound was created by Sister Rosetta Tharpe, a black woman who was born well over 100 years ago. Little Richard to Chuck Berry, from Bo Diddly to Jimi Hendrix, many of their white counterparts in this music genre owe a substantial amount of credit to these individuals. The Rolling Stones’ love for black music propelled them to super stardom, not to mention the millions of dollars Elvis Presley cultivated from early soul music. I though very carefully for a measured response that wouldn’t make me sound to preachy, after all I wanted to make my case solid in my statement.

Then I considered the segregation of black artist in the early 70’s and 80’s at the television award shows. Whenever an artist such as Michael Jackson and Prince would win it would be for best black single or best black artist of the year categories. Just look at some old footage from early 80’s clips on YouTube and you will see what I mean. As a child at that time, I was just so happy to see one of my favorite artist win, I didn’t take in the totality of the apparent segregation of music had been at that time.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has inducted every popular rock band from Led Zeppelin, Motley Crue, Aerosmith and countless others that they deem worthy of being beacons of light for the almighty throne of this genre. I mean, where would a place be for artists such as Hip Hop and R&B legends Run DMC and Parliament Funkadelic? Would we the have to take the time to create separate Halls of Fames for R&B and Hip Hop, knowing full well that those halls would not be so revered as such an institution as The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Would these events get the same amount of airtime and promotion to garner the same amount of recognition deserving of a legendary artist?

Whitney Houston and Biggie Smalls may be not the standard examples of your typical hard rocking artist with waving guitars and crashing drums. But consider Rock & Roll’s origins and take a step back and think about what Rock& Roll music really is. The music is full of high energy, up tempo beats and emotional gravitas that make the souls and hearts of the listeners race. I concede that LL Cool J would look a little awkward standing next to Alice Cooper, but I’m quite sure both artist would respect what the other does in the long run.

It’s about appeasing the masses and making the fans satisfied with the resulting product. Music is what it is: music. The categorization of music is what holds up the most barriers, it’s become denominational not unlike church on a Sunday morning. We idolize our music gods and stand firm on our personal beliefs of what a good song should be and not for what it really is. Maybe would should remember the joy that songs can bring from any artist if it’s good and celebrate together. We owe that to the legends who gave a treasure of memories and good times. So, let hip hop and R&B artists in with no trepidation, but with confidence that being honored is one of the greatest things we can do for one another despite our tastes and beliefs.

Trick Daddy Arrested for DUI and Drug Possession

Rapper Trick Daddy was arrested in Miami-Dade Saturday morning on a cocaine possession charge.

According to the police report, a Miami-Dade officer responded to a report of a driver hitting signs and running red lights in a dark colored Range Rover in the area of Southwest 128th Avenue and 42nd Street in Miami around 3:20 a.m.

When the officer approached the driver’s side, he saw that the driver “appeared to be asleep behind the wheel.”

Once he was awakened by a knock on the window, the man, identified by his driver’s license as Maurice Samuel Young — Trick Daddy’s birth name — told the officer he had left a club in Miami Gardens near Northwest 37th Avenue and 187th Street.

The arrest affidavit said that Young told the officer he had had about five drinks hours earlier at the club and that he was dropping someone off and heading home.

The report said Young had slurred speech, bloodshot, watery and glassy eyes and that the officer smelled alcohol on his breath. He agreed to a field sobriety test, which he could not successfully complete, police said.

Young was taken to the Hammocks District Station on 142nd Avenue. While there, police found cocaine inside a dollar bill while Trick Daddy was putting his possessions in a plastic bag.

Police also say he was wanted on a warrant for driving under the influence.

Trick Daddy was born 45 years ago in Liberty City. He was booked into Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center around 7:30 a.m. Saturday.

His bond was set at $5,000 on the cocaine possession charge and $1,000 on the driving under the influence charge.

This isn’t the rap star’s first encounter with South Florida authorities.

▪ In April 2014, Trick Daddy was arrested and charged in Miramar with possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon, possession of cocaine, and driving with a suspended license, a Broward Sheriff’s Office task force said at the time.

▪ He was also arrested in 1991 on a cocaine possession charge, carrying a concealed firearm and violating probation, according to a CBS4 report. He served more than two years in prison six years before the release of his 1997 debut album, ‘Based on a True Story.”

▪ He was arrested in 2003 on assault charges.

▪ He was also arrested on assault charges in 2003 for threatening to kill a man over a street basketball game.

His most recent album, “Finally Famous: Born a Thug, Still a Thug,” his eighth, was released in 2008, but it was not commercially successful.

In October 2019, Trick Daddy became the public face behind the new Miami Gardens soul food restaurant, Sunday’s Eatery.

That fall he also joined Trina as a morning host on Miami radio’s 99Jamz/WEDR. The music pair took over the “Rickey Smiley Morning Show.”

Young has submitted his bond, according to court records. He was released on Saturday and posted video from his visit that afternoon to Sunday’s on his Facebook page.

Martin Lawrence Speaks Candidly About Tisha Campbell’s 1997 Sexual Harassment Lawsuit

Many fans of the classic 1990s sitcom Martin are still upset about how the final season played out. Episodes of S5 came off as awkward to some viewers because main cast member Tisha Campbell (Gina Waters-Payne) barely appeared on the show.

The stilted storylines for season five were the result of Campbell suing series star Martin Lawrence (Martin Payne) and HBO Independent Productions for sexual harassment and abuse. She reportedly refused to film scenes with the stand-up comedian that year.

As rumors of a Martin reboot have made the rounds across the internet, it appears Lawrence and Campbell are back on good terms. GQ recently interviewed Martin and the topic of his falling out with Tisha came up.

“Yeah. Because none of that was true. It was all a lot of bullsh*t,” responded Lawrence when the interviewer mentionedCampbell’s lawsuit and the two entertainers now spending time together.

According to Martin, he and Tisha never spoke about the situation. The Bad Boys for Life actor said, “We don’t need to talk about something that just didn’t happen. So I just decided to walk away from the show. I just decided to end it. People said that I got canceled, but that wasn’t the case. I decided to just leave the show.”

Lawrence added that he sees Tisha “then and now, now and then.” The 54-year-old DMV native also expressed he has “nothing but love” for the actress that also appeared in School DazeHouse PartyBoomerang, and My Wife and Kids.

Their union lasted over a decade and was a rollercoaster ride but Rison loved Lopes until the very end. Many were stunned when the series revealed that Lopes was in a weird love triangle with Rison and Tupac Shakur, but even more stunned to find out that Lopes also dated Shakur’s label head, Suge Knight

Despite Lopes and Rison’s lengthy relationship, she spent much quality time with Shakur, whom her friends say she was madly in love with. Though they never crossed the lines of friendship, Lopes’ circle say that she considered Shakur to be her soul mate.

According to the series, Lopes and Shakur met a year before she began dating Rison. They met at an industry party and instantly hit it off. Lopes’ sister, Reign Lopes, revealed int he documentary that Shakur made Lopes promise to never let him make any sexual advances towards her. She didn’t and their friendship remained platonic, though those closest to her claim that Lopes would have preferred for their relationship to progress into something more.

“Lisa adored Tupac. If Tupac wanted to go there, she would have dated Tupac,” said Lopes cousin Tangi Foreman. “She really reflected on who she wanted to be with when she got out of the diversion center.”

Ironically, Rison and Shakur had their own friendship outside of Lopes. They met shortly after Lopes and Shakur when the rapper used Rison’s home studio to record some tracks. Shakur also filmed a music video at Rison’s mansion and lived with him for a few months. Rison did not know Lopes at the time nor that Shakur and Lopes were friends.

When Rison found out, he considered the situation to be “messy” as Lopes dated Rison and once had feelings for Shakur. “I was done,” he declared.

The relationship between Knight and Lopes was also featured in a 2015 Rolling Stone article. According to sources, the relationship reached a dramatic peak when Lopes discovered a love nest in the Death Row offices where Knight housed other women. A Death Row associate says Looes once threw bleach all over the furniture in the room, causing thousands of dollars worth of damage

The last time Rison saw Lopes was in a club in Atlanta. The two hadn’t seen or spoken to each other in months. Rison was in the VIP section of the club. When his entourage asked if he was going to invite Lopes into his section and he declined, they were shocked.

“It was the first time anyone had ever seen me deny her access to me,” he said.

Sadly, Lopes died a short time later in a car crash a month shy of her 31st birthday. Rison referred to her as an angel in an interview following her death. It’s unclear if she and Knight were still dating at the time of her death.
