The current chatter among  the Hollywood elite, is that The Butler will be considered for an Oscar nomination, based on the success of the film over the weekend. Lee Daniels and Forrest Whitaker did an amazing job so I hear.  BUT, are we tired of black movies only being considered for an Academy Award when we are servants, whores or the bad guy? With all of African American films being created and submitted to film festivals all over the world of all genres, why are most films depicting blacks in a subservient capacity Oscar worthy? Look at the recent success and accolades for films such as The Help & Precious, (also directed by Daniels), where the main characters are either under privileged, uneducated, undesirable, or under servitude.  What about other films that was deserving of Oscar nods but never received recognition, such as Rosewood ( directed by  John Singleton) or Malcolm X (Spike Lee)  or the hundreds of thousands of other young black directors that we don’t hear about? Even with all the power of what Tyler Perry has possessed over the last 10 years, what films out of his camp was even taken seriously by mainstream Hollywood for a Oscar win?

Lee Thompson Young – who played the main character on Disney’s “The Famous Jett Jackson” — has died after what officials believe is a suicide … TMZ has learned. He was 29. Sources tell us Young’s body was discovered with a gunshot wound that appears to be self-inflicted. Young currently appears in the TNT show “Rizzoli & Isles” — and we’re told when he didn’t show up to work this morning, staffers called the landlord of Young’s L.A. home to check up on the actor. We’re told … when the landlord opened the door, he discovered Young’s body.

Young was a rising star in Hollywood. After he made it big as a Disney star, he went on to play running back Chris Comer in the 2004 movie “Friday Night Lights.”

Guess the guy does have a sense of humor!

‘Kimye’, along with new 2 month old baby North, attended Kanye West’s grandfather’s funeral in Oklahoma this past weekend. Portwood Williams Sr., died on Aug. 10 at 98 years old.

Back in February, Williams voiced his approval for his grandson’s girlfriend, calling Kardashian “beautiful.”

The rest of the family, including Khloé Kardashian, Kourtney Kardashian, Kendall Jenner, and parents Kris and Bruce Jenner, were in attendance at the Alice in Wonderland-themed bash, reports E! News.

Singer Monica is expecting a baby girl with her husband Phoenix Suns Shannon Brown

According to Sandrarose, Monica’s baby shower for family and close friends will be held at a private residence in Atlanta next weekend. ‘ Monica has two children currently, Romelo Montez Hill, 5, and Rocko Ramone Hill III, 8.

Chris Brown has to redo 1000 of 1440 hours that he was accused of faking earlier this year. Back in February,

Chris Brown’s probation was reinstated yesterday and he was ordered to perform 1000 hours of community service to make up for the hours that could not be fully verified based on logs submitted previously. This time Chris must perform his community service in LA and not his home state of Virginia, where the his community service scandal is believed to have cost long time Richmond police chief Bryan Norwood his job.

Chris Brown’s probation had been revoked after hit and run allegations and was reinstated after he agreed to redo 1000 hours of his original 1440 hour sentence.

Beyonce left angry fans waiting soaking wet for 20 minutes in the rain at Britain’s V Festival after getting off to a bad start and leaving the stage.

Pop superstar Beyonce was booed at Britain’s V Festival on Saturday (17Aug13) after she left thousands of fans waiting in the pouring rain.

The singer headlined the opening night of the event in Chelmsford, England but she got off to a bad start by taking to the stage 20 minutes late, leaving the crowd standing in the wet and windy conditions.

A chorus of boos and jeers rang out through the site before Beyonce finally started her set with her track Run the World (Girls).

She later thanked fans for waiting in the wet conditions, telling the crowd, “Thank you all so much for waiting in the rain… Now let’s have some fun in the rain. It feels good doesn’t it.”

Lady Gaga took to Twitter with her Applause Contest, which pushed enough juice with her fans to go out like zombies and purchase multiple copies of her new single, ‘Applause’ which offered the opportunity to meet Gaga at one of her international shows by becoming one of the two fans with the most copies of “Applause” and dressed up in ‘Applause’ related costumes.

Toni Braxton had a pretty embarrassing incident after the back half of her dress popped off and exposed her derriere during a concert in New Brunswick, N.J. Those ‘cakes’ were on quick display to the delight of all her fans, whom I’m quite sure wasn’t aware that this was included with the price of admission!
