NAACP Prez: ‘It Doesn’t Matter if Keith Scott Had a Gun’
NAACP Prez: ‘It Doesn’t Matter if Keith Lamont Scott Had a Gun’Thursday, September 22, 2016The narrative has changed in the police shooting of Charlotte resident Keith Lamont Scott after police provided video of the shooting to his family.Charlotte-Mecklenburg NAACP President Minister Corine Mack says it doesn’t matter if Scott had a gun in his hand when he was gunned down by police.Scott’s death sparked 2 days of rioting, looting, and violence in Charlotte, N.C.“In my mind, and in most of the community’s mind, it really doesn’t matter if he had a gun,” said Mack in an interview broadcast on Thursday’s CNN Newsroom.“
At the end of the day we have the right under the Second Amendment to carry here in North Carolina. And their responsibility was to engage him in a more de-escalated way, to find out if he had a permit for his gun, and allow him to go on his merry way, and he would still be living today.
That’s not what happened. And so, I don’t want anyone to walk away from this conversation today thinking that a video showing he had a gun in any way says that he was guilty of anything.”A state of emergency was declared and the National Guard was deployed in Charlotte following a 2nd night of rioting and looting there. One man was shot Wednesday night. He is listed in critical condition at a hospital.Apparently his life doesn’t matter, since he wasn’t shot by a police officer.
