Who knew the Commander-in-Chief was a fan of His Purple Majesty? Insiders gave the scoop to The Washington Post, which stated that a private VIP performance with Prince and his band 3rdEyeGirl at the White House last Saturday night was not on the president’s public schedule. ABC News added the White House confirmed the president and first lady hosted a private party that night, but declined to comment on the musical entertainment.

What the New York Post Page Six described as “a highly secretive event” was planned to celebrate African-American Music Appreciation Month. Prince reportedly played hits including “Kiss” and “Purple Rain” during the two-hour concert.

Twitter was ablaze with live tweets of the event:

President Obama, his wife and two daughters were reportedly joined by about 500 guests. The audience got a musical surprise as part of the show, when Prince brought Stevie Wonder onstage for a duet, with the two Hall of Fame musicians singing “Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I’m Yours.”

Leaving the White House party w/POTUS and FLOTUS. Awesome to see Prince and Stevie Wonder on keyboards together. Unbelievable experience.

Included on the guest list were former Attorney General Eric Holder; Education Secretary Arne Duncan; White House National Security Adviser Susan E. Rice; Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and his date, singer Ciara; entertainers Jon Bon Jovi, James Taylor, Tyler Perry, Connie Britton and Angela Bassett.

True story: I met Michelle Obama for 5 seconds in 2010, asked if she’d ever invite Prince to the White House. She said “Ooh, I LOVE Prince.” — Chris _ _ Richards (@Chris__Richards) June 15, 2015
